The best beaches for swimming with kids
Even if the kids love the waves, you want to relax on a calmer beach? Here are our favourite beaches for a swim with the kids on the south coast of the Landes.
The beach sea lake in Vieux-Boucau
Also known as the Pergola beach, this beach is a family favourite. Children can have fun in a calm and shallow water on the secured beach and of course supervised in summer. We also like this beach for its warmer water than the ocean, temperature is 2 to 3 degrees higher! Its proximity to the city centre makes it a perfect beach for picnics.
La sauvagine, in Soustons
We still stay at the marine lake, but this time on the south-west side of the lake, the beach La Sauvagine has everything to please the families. A pleasant frame, shaded spaces and a supervised bathing. What to plan a nice moment of relaxation with your tribe. But swimming is not the only thing on the program: you can navigate on the lake in pedal boats, canoe, sailboard… And if you want a change of scenery, you can reach the ocean beach in 10 minutes.
L’Estacade, in Capbreton
Located against the pier that gave it its name, the Estacade beach is the most family-friendly beach in Capbreton. Protected by the Estacade on one side and a dyke on the other, it is sheltered from the waves and becomes a nice pool to amuse the little ones or to make the older ones swim.
And in the evening, you can admire the sunset from the Estacade, a guaranteed thrill!
The chènes Lièges beach (cork oak beach), at the marine lake of Hossegor
A small and intimate beach on the edge of Hossegor’s lake, appreciated by families for the tranquillity of the water but also for the beauty of the place. Sheltered from the effervescence of the city centre, this beach is easy to access with a car park nearby. The access is also possible for people with disabled access. Thanks to the oaks, there are shaded areas therefore suitable for picnics and long naps. Children will have a great time swimming, playing in the sand and watching crabs! The beach is supervised in summer, but remember to check the tide times before going there.
